Description

According to Pete Dunn, petedunnite “is a very boring mineral”. I think he is being coy. Sure – it’s ugly. But he knows full well that anything this rare is not boring to collectors. Also according to Pete, petedunite is dark green. But some have claimed light green analyzed (XRD) samples. Given that petedunnite is a pyroxene, I’m not convinced XRD is the way to go. In any case, this is a fragment of a specimen given to me by John Cianciulli (then curator of the Franklin Mineral Museum), who worked very closely with Pete. So I am pretty sure that at least the dark green stuff is petedunninite. If the light green is too – well that’s a bonus. There appear to be poikilitic inclusions of calcite in both parts.

Weight 0.2 oz (including micro box). Single item (small box) shipping weight 2.2 oz. Outside the USA, this could be sent in a padded envelope for $7. Alternatively, it could be combined with other items up to a total weight < 4 oz for the same cost as this item alone.

Seller's terms and conditions

In addition to the standard terms and conditions, please note the following. Almost all IDs are visual. While in most cases the ID is obvious, there may be cases where it is not. If you are doubtful about a particular ID, please ask for more information. Or do not bid! Similarly, if you are not sure that the specimen meets your criteria, do not bid. I have tdone the best I can with the photos. Nevertheless, if you are not happy with a specimen for any reason, I will refund the bid price – but not the shipping costs (unless the fault is clearly mine) – if the specimen is returned. This policy applies even if analysis of the specimen shows that my ID was incorrect. When in doubt, ask - or don’t bid. Note that most crystals at MSH and Varennes are micros - even if on large specimens. Please pay attention to the stated sizes. Any customs duties, fees etc. are the responsibility of the buyer.
