Description

Two deep orange xls (perhaps twinned) in a cavity in igneous brecia. The maximum diameter is 1.8 mm. You will need 10-20X to view the xls clearly. A third, similar, xl is in a neighboring cavity. The xls are associated with small, well formed amphibole prisms (“arfvedsonite” or richterite), fibrous pectolite (not shown, but of the type often mistaken for makatite) and tiny yellow titanite xls (red arrow in the macro photo).

This is from a find that produced khomyakovite, manganokhomyakovite and ferrokentbrooksite, almost always as zones in the same xl. However, most xls had only ferrokentbrooksite (and possibly some undefined phases). And there are no visual clues to distinguish which is which. Do not bid on this specimen in the hope of getting, say, khomyakovite – unless you like to gamble and are willing to risk a substantial investment for analysis (at least WDS). Others have tried and have come up mostly empty.

Weight 0.3 oz (including micro box). Single item shipping weight 2.3 oz. Outside the USA, this could be sent in a padded envelope for $7. Alternatively, it could be combined with other items for the same cost up to a total weight < 4 oz.

Seller's terms and conditions

In addition to the standard terms and conditions, please note the following. Almost all IDs are visual. While in most cases the ID is obvious, there may be cases where it is not. If you are doubtful about a particular ID, please ask for more information. Or do not bid! Similarly, if you are not sure that the specimen meets your criteria, do not bid. I have tdone the best I can with the photos. Nevertheless, if you are not happy with a specimen for any reason, I will refund the bid price – but not the shipping costs (unless the fault is clearly mine) – if the specimen is returned. This policy applies even if analysis of the specimen shows that my ID was incorrect. When in doubt, ask - or don’t bid. Note that most crystals at MSH and Varennes are micros - even if on large specimens. Please pay attention to the stated sizes. Any customs duties, fees etc. are the responsibility of the buyer.
