Description

The main alleghanyite (probably a twin) is the boomerang shaped xl at bottom center in the first photo (FOV 5.8 x 4.5 mm). It spans about ~ 1¾ mm. There are several smaller xls on the left, but they blend in with the background and barely show up in the photo. (some are also seen nearly edge on.) The colorless “whiskers” are secondary willemite. The black platy looking xls are actually compound secondary franklinite xls with unusual habits. The franklinite and willemite are shown a bit more clearly in the second photo (FOV 5.4 x 4.7 mm), however the lighting in this case makes the willemite look white. Alleghanyite has been reported from numerous localities. But xls from anywhere are rare. Most of the smaller xls on this specimen are not too distinct. But the “large” twin is quite sharp. Unfortunately it lies flat on a very busy matrix, some of which is nearly the same color as the alleghanyite. You will need 15-20X to see it clearly. The base matrix is granular willemite-franklinite-calcite ore. Weight (including micro box) 0.2 oz. Single item (small boX) shipping weight 2.2 oz. Outside the USA, this could be sent in a padded envelope for $7. Alternatively, it could be combined with other items, up to a total weight < 4 oz, for the same postage.

Seller's terms and conditions

In addition to the standard terms and conditions, please note the following. Almost all IDs are visual. While in most cases the ID is obvious, there may be cases where it is not. If you are doubtful about a particular ID, please ask for more information. Or do not bid! Similarly, if you are not sure that the specimen meets your criteria, do not bid. I have tdone the best I can with the photos. Nevertheless, if you are not happy with a specimen for any reason, I will refund the bid price – but not the shipping costs (unless the fault is clearly mine) – if the specimen is returned. This policy applies even if analysis of the specimen shows that my ID was incorrect. When in doubt, ask - or don’t bid. Note that most crystals at MSH and Varennes are micros - even if on large specimens. Please pay attention to the stated sizes. Any customs duties, fees etc. are the responsibility of the buyer.
