Sterling Mine, Ogdensburg, Sussex County, New Jersey, United States of America
Size Range:
Thumbnail (1-3cm)
Size:
0.8 × 1.2 × 0.7 cm
Description

This is a micro, but for its size, it has good coverage by allactite. The aggregate of tightly packed “fans” of bladed crystals shown in the close-up photos (FOV 5.6 x 4.1 mm and 4.1 x 6.1 mm) resp. span a total of 4.3 mm . The central aggregate spans 2.2 mm. In addition to the allactite, there are small rhombs of rhodochrosite (bottom) and small sprays of chlorophoenicite, most of which are shown in the third photo (FOV 6.6 x 4.2 mm). The largest spay (bottom left in this photo) spans about 1.4 mm. Small - but Sterling Hill and Franklin remain the only known non-slag localities for chloropohoenicite. Both the allactite and chlorophoenicite will look more distinct through a scope (10-20X) than I was able to capture in the photos. In the macro photo, the allactite is mostly at the lower left. The matrix is franklinite-willemite, the latter occurring in red-orange grains (fluorescent of course). Weight 0.1 oz (including MM case). Single item shipping weight 2.1 oz. Up to 4 oz, this can be combined with other items for the same postage. Alternatively, outside the USA, this could be sent in a padded envelope for $7.

Seller's terms and conditions

In addition to the standard terms and conditions, please note the following. Almost all IDs are visual. While in most cases the ID is obvious, there may be cases where it is not. If you are doubtful about a particular ID, please ask for more information. Or do not bid! Similarly, if you are not sure that the specimen meets your criteria, do not bid. I have tdone the best I can with the photos. Nevertheless, if you are not happy with a specimen for any reason, I will refund the bid price – but not the shipping costs (unless the fault is clearly mine) – if the specimen is returned. This policy applies even if analysis of the specimen shows that my ID was incorrect. When in doubt, ask - or don’t bid. Note that most crystals at MSH and Varennes are micros - even if on large specimens. Please pay attention to the stated sizes. Any customs duties, fees etc. are the responsibility of the buyer.
