Description

This is a doubly terminated xl 1 cm long. It is not perfect. There is a small smooth contact on one side, and a rough contact or bruise on the opposite side. But these things are even more fragile than franklinite (and a lot less common). All in all, this is in very good shape for one of these and it is relatively sharply formed, though not as big as some xls from this quarry (which reach 3+ cm).

As shown in the second photo, it fluoresces bright yellow. However this photo is just an approximation. I am not a fluorescent photographer and can’t always figure out how to tell my camera to “think properly” when it comes to UV photos. In this case, the “obvious settings” didn’t work. To get roughly correct colors I had to use ISO 1600, wide open aperture and a 13 second exposure. This is probably because mu source is weak and I don’t have the proper filters to keep the camera lens from fluorescing. As a result, the image is extremely grainy and not very sharp. But hopefully it gives a somewhat realistic result.

The last photo is a micro close-up. The idea was to show that the xl is relatively sharp. But, in the end, the macro photos probably do a better job of that.

Weight 0.1 oz. Not suitable for shipping in a padded envelope.

Seller's terms and conditions

In addition to the standard terms and conditions, please note the following. Almost all IDs are visual. While in most cases the ID is obvious, there may be cases where it is not. If you are doubtful about a particular ID, please ask for more information. Or do not bid! Similarly, if you are not sure that the specimen meets your criteria, do not bid. I have tdone the best I can with the photos. Nevertheless, if you are not happy with a specimen for any reason, I will refund the bid price – but not the shipping costs (unless the fault is clearly mine) – if the specimen is returned. This policy applies even if analysis of the specimen shows that my ID was incorrect. When in doubt, ask - or don’t bid. Note that most crystals at MSH and Varennes are micros - even if on large specimens. Please pay attention to the stated sizes. Any customs duties, fees etc. are the responsibility of the buyer.
