Sterling Hill, Ogdensburg, Sussex County, New Jersey, United States of America
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)

3.5 × 4.5 × 3 cm
Description

This a small sample of material that was very abundant in the Passaic and Noble pits at Sterling Hill - and less so in the mine itself. But no longer. The specimen came without a label so I don’t know for sure exactly where it came from.

The hemimorphite “fan” shown in the first photo (FOV 4.3 x 6.6 mm) is neither the biggest nor the best on the specimen. I chose this one to photograph because it is relatively isolated and has a contrasting background. You won’t have any problem viewing the other “fans” of xls through a scope. In fact, some of them look beautiful. But photographing stacks of lustrous, colorless, xls is another matter.

I have no idea what the orange stuff is (mimetite?). Even more mysterious are large areas of golden/bronzy flaky/foamy stuff in the matrix. Something to investigate perhaps.

Weight 1.9 oz. Single item(small box) shipping weight 3.9 oz. Actual postage according to total weight of items.

Seller's terms and conditions

In addition to the standard terms and conditions, please note the following. Almost all IDs are visual. While in most cases the ID is obvious, there may be cases where it is not. If you are doubtful about a particular ID, please ask for more information. Or do not bid! Similarly, if you are not sure that the specimen meets your criteria, do not bid. I have tdone the best I can with the photos. Nevertheless, if you are not happy with a specimen for any reason, I will refund the bid price – but not the shipping costs (unless the fault is clearly mine) – if the specimen is returned. This policy applies even if analysis of the specimen shows that my ID was incorrect. When in doubt, ask - or don’t bid. Note that most crystals at MSH and Varennes are micros - even if on large specimens. Please pay attention to the stated sizes. Any customs duties, fees etc. are the responsibility of the buyer.
