Låvenite & Rinkite Group

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Demix-Varennes Quarry, Varennes & St-Amable, Montérégie, Québec, Canada
Size Range:
Small miniature (3-4.5 cm)
Size:
1.5 × 1.7 × 3 cm
Description

A nice little “chrysanthemum” of låvenite. But you will need 20-30X to view it. It spans 1 mm.

This “petal” habit is typical at Saint-Amable. Larger (> 1cm) aggregates of a “splayed rosette” habit occur in some mineralized seams. But note the more “normal” looking prismatic habit at the bottom of the first photo.

Låvenite is often associated with “rinkite” and the top of the second photo (FOV 3.6 x 4.8 mm) shows some of the rather bedraggled stuff on this specimen. There are also some more, very small, låvenitetufts, minor brown astrophyllite and platy grayish microcline.

Note: At MSH, all “rinkite group” specimens analyzed have apparently turned out to be rinkite proper rather than mosandrite. Rumor has it the same is true for the Saint-Amable sill. However, Mindat still list both species for this locality - so “group” it is.

Weight 0.3 oz. This could be mailed in a padded envelope for $7 (less in the USA).

Seller's terms and conditions

In addition to the standard terms and conditions, please note the following. Almost all IDs are visual. While in most cases the ID is obvious, there may be cases where it is not. If you are doubtful about a particular ID, please ask for more information. Or do not bid! Similarly, if you are not sure that the specimen meets your criteria, do not bid. I have tdone the best I can with the photos. Nevertheless, if you are not happy with a specimen for any reason, I will refund the bid price – but not the shipping costs (unless the fault is clearly mine) – if the specimen is returned. This policy applies even if analysis of the specimen shows that my ID was incorrect. When in doubt, ask - or don’t bid. Note that most crystals at MSH and Varennes are micros - even if on large specimens. Please pay attention to the stated sizes. Any customs duties, fees etc. are the responsibility of the buyer.
