Sérandite & Sphalerite

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Demix-Varennes Quarry, Varennes & St-Amable, Montérégie, Québec, Canada
Size Range:
Small miniature (3-4.5 cm)
Size:
2 × 3.5 × 3 cm
Description

Ignore the size, this is a micro. The sérandite does span 4 mm, and you can see it with the nakec eye, but you will need 15X to see the sphalerite xls, the largest of which is a bit > 1 mm.

Sphalerite is common in the sill and comes in a variety of habits, including spinel twins as here. The pale pink sérandite is typical of the sill. I don’t know what the tan rosette on the left is. Similar rosettes found I999/2000 were thrice verified as epistolite. But this is from May of 1996 and has not been analyzed. Shkatulkaite is another possibility. But these minerals are tricky to verify. No claim made.

The white plates are microcline. There is also aegirine, analcime, and minor manganoneptunite, eudialyte, natrolite, and zakharovite. Listed for completeness only.

In the macro photo, the sérandite shown in the close-up is at bottom left.

Weight 0.6 oz. Single item shipping weight 2.8 oz. Up to <= 4 oz, this can be combined with other items for the same postage.

Seller's terms and conditions

In addition to the standard terms and conditions, please note the following. Almost all IDs are visual. While in most cases the ID is obvious, there may be cases where it is not. If you are doubtful about a particular ID, please ask for more information. Or do not bid! Similarly, if you are not sure that the specimen meets your criteria, do not bid. I have tdone the best I can with the photos. Nevertheless, if you are not happy with a specimen for any reason, I will refund the bid price – but not the shipping costs (unless the fault is clearly mine) – if the specimen is returned. This policy applies even if analysis of the specimen shows that my ID was incorrect. When in doubt, ask - or don’t bid. Note that most crystals at MSH and Varennes are micros - even if on large specimens. Please pay attention to the stated sizes. Any customs duties, fees etc. are the responsibility of the buyer.
