Description

The heataerolite in the first photo spans 3¼ mm. You will need 10-20X to view it.

The actual color of the hetaerolite is jet black. But to show the shapes, I had to use reflections, which make it look silvery. Also, in order to avoid “blow outs” I had to expose for the highlights. This rendered the hodginsonite in the background very dark. Hence I had to use Photoshop tricks to make it visible (without burning out the reflections). However, the eye has a much greater dynamic range, so what you will see through a scope will appear similar to the photo.

Note that this is Sterling Hill hodgkinsonite – not Franklin. Even at their largest, hodkinsonite xls from here rarely reach 1 mm and the color is nothing like the vibrant color of Franklin material. The hodgkinsonite here is a drab tan-pink color and the xls are only visible at about 60X. It spans about 2 x 0.5-1 cm (top left in the macro photo). Nevertheless – it is hodgkinsonite. A rare mineral found only in these deposits.

Weight 1.1 oz.

Seller's terms and conditions

In addition to the standard terms and conditions, please note the following. Almost all IDs are visual. While in most cases the ID is obvious, there may be cases where it is not. If you are doubtful about a particular ID, please ask for more information. Or do not bid! Similarly, if you are not sure that the specimen meets your criteria, do not bid. I have tdone the best I can with the photos. Nevertheless, if you are not happy with a specimen for any reason, I will refund the bid price – but not the shipping costs (unless the fault is clearly mine) – if the specimen is returned. This policy applies even if analysis of the specimen shows that my ID was incorrect. When in doubt, ask - or don’t bid. Note that most crystals at MSH and Varennes are micros - even if on large specimens. Please pay attention to the stated sizes. Any customs duties, fees etc. are the responsibility of the buyer.
