Description

Steeply terminated pectolite xlo to ~ 1½ cm, sprinkled by tiny (mostly 0.4-5 mm on edge) pseudo-octahedral apophyllite. (This is one of the typical habits for apophyllite at MSH.)

In addition, there is very acicular vesuvianite and a hellandite group mineral (formerly mis-identified as tadzhikite-(Ce) but now referenced as UK39 in the “official” MSH species list published by the CMMA). A couple of small phlogopite books are also present. The vesuvianite is the fuzzy looking blob at top left in the last macro photo.

The pectolite is naked eye visible and could be displayed, but to see the other minerals, you will need 10-20X. This is also useful for looking at the pectolite terminations.

The first close-up (FOV 4.6 x 6.9 mm – main photo) shows pectolite with apophyllite. The second shows about 7.3 mm of an isolated pectolite xl. Note that many of the pectolite xls are perfectly formed on one side but rough or fibrous on the other. The third (FOV 4.5 x 5.8 mm) shows vesuvianite growing more or less epitactically on pectolite. Please note that the pectolite with its vesuvianite is not attached to the matrix. So I can not guarantee it will arrive with the specimen. But the photo is still useful for showing the very acicular nature of the vesuvianite. The fourth photo shows an example (~ 0.6 mm) of hellandite. Because of the amorphous coating (ubiquitous at MSH), one can discern a foliated structure.

As a “bonus”, at the base of the specimen, there is another, unidentified, blue-gray radiating mineral.

Weight 0.9 oz.

Seller's terms and conditions

In addition to the standard terms and conditions, please note the following. Almost all IDs are visual. While in most cases the ID is obvious, there may be cases where it is not. If you are doubtful about a particular ID, please ask for more information. Or do not bid! Similarly, if you are not sure that the specimen meets your criteria, do not bid. I have tdone the best I can with the photos. Nevertheless, if you are not happy with a specimen for any reason, I will refund the bid price – but not the shipping costs (unless the fault is clearly mine) – if the specimen is returned. This policy applies even if analysis of the specimen shows that my ID was incorrect. When in doubt, ask - or don’t bid. Note that most crystals at MSH and Varennes are micros - even if on large specimens. Please pay attention to the stated sizes. Any customs duties, fees etc. are the responsibility of the buyer.
