Leucosphenite & Monteregianite

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Poudrette Quarry, Mont Saint-Hilaire, Québec, Canada
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
4 × 6.5 × 2.5 cm
Largest Crystal:
0.35cm
Description

This specimen is rich in both lustrous, water clear, colorless, leucosphenite and typical,
silvery-gray, monteregianite. There are five arrows pointing to the largest leucosphenites, and two arrows pointing to monteregianite. But there are additional, unmarked groups of both species on the specimen. You will need 10-20X to view them.

The main photo shows a cavity with more than a half dozen leucosphenite xls to > 3 mm. The top xl (probably an aggregate) has some damage on one side (bottom left), but otherwise the xls are in very good shape and are well terminated.

Some of the monteregianite and more leucosphenite are shown in the other photos (for which I have supplied separate scale information.)

There are also a few tufts of tiny, pale pink vinogradovite/lorenzenite (last close up). At MSH, lorenzenite usually fluoresces yellow, vinogradovite does not. I did not see any UV response in this case, but the xls are too small to be sure.

In addition to these “goodies”, there is a “baddy” – stuff that looks like yofortierite or tuperssuatsiaite, but is almost certainly an amphibole. (I was not able to add another photo showing this stuff, but see for example [http://www.mindat.org/photo-192417.html] etc.)

Associated minerals are aegirine and/or “arfvedsonite”, blocky albite, very etched smoky quartz, microcline, nondescript, mousy looking, fibrous pectolite, and very minor molybdenite..

This specimen is from an igneous breccia.

Conceivably, it could be split into several micros – but why?

Seller's terms and conditions

In addition to the standard terms and conditions, please note the following. Almost all IDs are visual. While in most cases the ID is obvious, there may be cases where it is not. If you are doubtful about a particular ID, please ask for more information. Or do not bid! Similarly, if you are not sure that the specimen meets your criteria, do not bid. I have tdone the best I can with the photos. Nevertheless, if you are not happy with a specimen for any reason, I will refund the bid price – but not the shipping costs (unless the fault is clearly mine) – if the specimen is returned. This policy applies even if analysis of the specimen shows that my ID was incorrect. When in doubt, ask - or don’t bid. Note that most crystals at MSH and Varennes are micros - even if on large specimens. Please pay attention to the stated sizes. Any customs duties, fees etc. are the responsibility of the buyer.
