Ex. Leo Jahaan Collection
Type Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Palomo Mine, Castrovirreyna Province, Huancavelica Department, Peru
Class:
Combination
Size Range:
Small miniature (3-4.5 cm)
Size:
4.2 × 3.2 × 2.8 cm
Description

This incredible richly colored blood-red realgar crystal has grown in an unusual floater formation (no matrix, no obvious points of contact), and is partially coated with yellow-green anorpiment as well as an as-yet-unidentified yellow/orange mineral (most likely pararealgar).

The specimen comes from the Palomo Mine in Peru, which is the type locality for anorpiment -- this rare mineral hasn't yet been found anywhere else in the world.

The very interesting anorpiment growth provides a striking contrast to the red realgar and the yellow/orange mineral coating.

Backlighting brings out an even more intense pure red.

This is a fantastic one-of-a-kind display piece, you won't find another like it.

Ex. Collection of Leo Jahaan

Note: Due to the fragile nature of the realgar, there will likely be minor shedding (flakes) during transport, however it will not affect the aesthetics and we will minimize it as much as possible through careful packaging.

Seller's terms and conditions

Please read the dimensions of the specimen, as the size of minerals in photos can be misleading.

To see the details shown in close-up macro photos, you may require a high quality magnifying glass or jeweler's loupe.

Care has been taken to accurately display the colors of the specimen. However, please be aware that computer monitors and phone screens each display colors slightly differently. Differences in light brightness and light source can also drastically alter the appearance of mineral colors. Therefore please be aware that while these photos are accurate and colors have not been enhanced, what you see on your screen may vary slightly from what you see in your hand, and may require specific lighting conditions (usually brighter is better).

Information regarding the specimen's found locality and mineral identification is believed to be correct, however due to the complexities of ID'ing minerals and tracking source locations in rare cases this data may be imprecise.

If you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to send a message.
