Description

Old time strickblende specimen from Belgium's premier locality for the species, the Kelmis-Moresnet area - a typical specimen of knitted galena. This one is not sawn, has a good cabinet size and the typical dendritic structures are very well visible on all sides. Meanwhile, these specimens are scarce on the markets and hard to come by.

Strictly speaking, "Strickblende" was described as a specific association of galena and sphalerite, not as a single species. It was used for specimens showing skeletal grown galena enclosed in banded, colloform sphalerite.
Since the sphalerite was way more visible than the skeletal galena, they called it "Strickblende", translated literally: "knitted sphalerite".
(Blende being an old German name for sphalerite).
