Description

This is a super-rare pseudomorph of crossite after a flattened, hexagonal-shaped benitoite crystal. A floater crystal, complete all around.

The crystal shows a weak (10 secs exposure time), ghostly blue-white fluorescence indicating that most of the original benitoite was replaced by crossite, or the proportion of crossite inclusions is very high (see pics 7 & 8).
Crossite is a discontinued Amphibole Supergroup name and stands for glaucophane or ferroglaucophane or magnesioriebeckite or riebeckite, MM 61, 309 (1997).
