Description

Rare, old-time stibnite specimen consisting solely of irregularly intergrown crystals.

From old Dr. Krantz stock, comes with beautiful antique label in old german script, dated around 1900. The label means: "Stufenförmiges (?) Grauspießglanzerz, übereinanderliegend, von der Grube Stadthandlung in Kremnitz" (step-shaped (?) stibnite, "super-imposed", from the Stadthandlung pit in Kremnitz).
"Grauspießglanzerz" is an old german synonym for stibnite.
"Kremnitz" is the old german name for Kremnica in modern Slovakia.

The "Stadthandlung" minefield is mentioned in old literature, e.g.
"VIII. Gold- und Silber-Bergbau zu Kremnitz in Ungarn.
Von Eduard Wiodakiewicz, k. k. Schichtmeister.
(Mitgetheilt in der Sitzung der k. k. geologischen Reichsanstalt am 11. März 1865)".
