Description

A quartz veinlet, bounded on both sides by bronze-silvery mica sheets, is hosting two black masses of uraninite var cleveite.

Cleveite is a REE-and Th-bearing variety of uraninite. Presence of (Y, Ce, etc.)2O3 extends to at least 10%. The first portions of terrestrial Helium (He) were obtained during Cleveite dissolution in sulfuric acid (Ramsey 23 March of 1895 - 27 years later of discovery of He on the Sun). First described by Nordenskiöld (1878) from the Garta feldspar quarry, Arendal, Aust-Agder, Norway. From an old french collection.

Radioactive due to content of U, Th and/or rare earth elements (appr. 18 micro Sv/h within spitting distance).
