Description

An interesting historic specimen: Pyrargyllite was first described by Nordensköld in 1832 ("Jahres-Bericht über die Fortschritte der physischen Wissenschaften von Jacob Berzelius 31. März 1832"), "to be found in the granites around Helsingfors". Helsingfors is the swedish name for Helsinki, the capital of Finland.
Later, the mineral was discredited as "decomposed cordierite": Pyrargillit = muscovite ± chlorite pseudomorph after cordierite, Dana 6th, 421 (1892).

Comes with beautiful antique label of "Mineralienhaus Droop, Dresden-Plauen". Carl Adolph Droop was born August 28, 1841 in Raumthal, Langenfelde, Germany. He was the proprietor of a mineral dealership in Dresden-Plauen, Germany, which he founded in 1889. The business went first by the name of "Sächsische Mineralien-Handlung Droop" as late as 1903, and later (perhaps after the death of the founder?) as "Mineralienhaus Droop."
