Description

Specimen consisting solely of grained, apple-green vesuvianite.

This is a 19th century classic with label of notorious Charles Ottley Groom-Napier (1839-1894) alias "Prince of Mantua and Montferrat" ("Mus. M&M"). See his interesting biography on minrecs biographical archive. The label means: "Idocrase pale green var(iety) - Sicily". Idocrase is a synonym for vesuvianite.
With M&M, the given localities are doubtful from time to time, Vesuvianite is not described for Sicily, but it must not necessarily be wrong.
