Description

Lustrous red-brown staurolite and blue kyanite in white paragonite matrix, accompanied by blackish lustrous muscovite.

Comes with two beautiful old labels and on-glued corresponding number sticker: One from the former collection of metallurgical plant director Dr. O. Schmidt, Bergisch-Gladbach, Germany. He deaceased 1923 or 1924, the collection (appr. 1200 specimens) was sold to the city of Bergisch-Gladbach in 1925, used as teaching resources in a secondary school then. In 2016, after several movements, the remainders of the collection were sold to in order to support the city's fossil collection.
The other is from Carl Droop who was born August 28, 1841 in Raumthal, Langenfelde, Germany. Carl Droop was the proprietor of a mineral dealership in Dresden-Plauen, Germany, which he founded in 1889. The business went first by the name of "Sächsische Mineralien-Handlung Droop" as late as 1903, and later (perhaps after the death of the founder?) as "Mineralienhaus Droop."

In my opinion this specimen is characteristic of Sponda Alp - Pizzo Forno, Chironico Valley, Leventina, Ticino, Switzerland (which is the type locality for paragonite); kyanite, paragonite and staurolite are not described for Monte Campione.
