Description

This specimen consists of massive bornite (brownish grey with matte gloss) and chalcocite (blueish iridiscent, see pic 3) with minor matrix attached. From classic Ajo Mining District, Pima Co., Arizona, USA.

Comes with old Filer's label dated after 1970. Filer's was founded by Russell Filer who was born July 25, 1921. In 1933 he had his first mineral labels printed, reading "Russell Filer, 328 Myrtle St., Redlands, California". He placed ads and was soon doing business selling and trading minerals.
In 1954 Russell took a boat trip through part of Europe, visiting Elizabeth Maucher's shop in Munich and Dr. F. Krantz in Bonn.
