Description

The Johannesburg - Witwatersrand gold reefs are archean alluvial conglomerates, the former pebbles are clearly distinguishable on this interesting specimen. The rock hosts traces of gold in the form of thin sheets (approx. 5 mm), accompanied by masses of crystalline cubic pyrite.

From old Dr. Krantz stock, comes with antique notice label.
This is a fine example of a south african gold ore specimen; despite it is one of the world largest gold producers, gold specimens from South Africa are increasingly scarce on the markets. Modern security regulations prevent specimens and samples from leaving the mines without being crushed for gold extraction.
