Description

Specimen consisting mainly of auriferous pyrite and minor white quartz. The pyrite is beautifully tarnished in golden, blue and purple colors. I could not identify any free gold (the vast majority of gold is extracted from ores without visible gold).

Comes with a beautiful old Dr. F. Krantz pen and ink label dated 1900-1920. The label means: "Eisenkies [goldhaltig] Passagem Brasilien" (Pyrite [auriferous] Passagem Brazil).
"Eisenkies" is an old german synonym for pyrite.
The Passagem mine is an old gold mine, active from 1719 to 1985, located in the village of Passagem de Mariana, 7 km E of Ouro Preto.
