Description

High lustrous crystals of hemimorphite ("KIeselzinkerz") on the typical calamine matrix. A nice miniature specimen from the Altenberg zinc mine in Neutral-Moresnet. Neutral Moresnet was a small Belgian-Prussian condominium that existed from 1816 to 1920 between present-day Belgium and Germany. The mine was owned by Vieille-Montagne, closed in 1884 and is part of the classic Altenberg / Kelmis / Moresnet mining area near Aachen, Germany.

Before the Mexican specimens flooded the market, this mining area was the premier source of good hemimorphite specimens.

Comes with beautiful label of the Mineralien-Niederlage (mineral repository) Freiberg, Saxony, Germany, handwriting of Otto Felix Edelmann, who was Administrator from 1920 to 1952.
