Description

A fine old-time specimen from the historic Levant mine of Cornwall: Very sharp and lustrous, steel-grey, more or less tabular crystals of chalcocite are scattered on a matrix which appears to be solid, massive chalcocite. The size of the crystals is up to 8 mm. Accompanied by blackish tennantite. There is an obvious, elongated crystal which may also be chalcocite (see pic 6).

This historic mine was active from 1820 until 1930, after being abandoned the mine was flooded because big parts of the mine were below sea level. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
