Swiss locality specimen: Appr. 30 thin gold flakes from washing activities glued into a box. Size is up to 2 mm.

The Grosse Fontannen river in the Napf area is well-known to gold washers. Gold occurs as glitters, nuggets or grains are very rare and always small. This so-called "Napf" (the highest mountain in the area) gold is very pure because it is a tertiary deposit. The primary gold was collected in alluvial cones of miocene rivers which become molasse conglomerate as secondary deposit, and through erosion it is concentrated again in present-day river alluvials.
