Description

Olive-green crusts of nontronite on matrix from an almost unknown location near "Selters" in the Westerwald (not to be confused with the well-known "Selters" in the Taunus mountains, famous for its mineral springs).

The designation "Grüneisenerz" (green iron ore) normally stands for dufrénite or rockbridgeite (Strunz 531 (1970)) - but I guess it was originally written down just because of the color - the "real" component is the typical waxy, dull nontonite and this was added on the label later on.

An odd locality specimen which comes with pencil writing on the backside of a printed B. Stürtz label - such "recycling" labels were occasionally used by Krantz.
