Description

Complete slab containing rhodonite plus Mn- and Fe- carbonates. The color is brown to old rose/pinkish and grey. One side is polished.

Comes with beautiful old hand-written label. The label means:
"Rhodonit mit Brostenit - Dealul Ferului, Brosteni, Rumänien" (Rhodonite with brostenite - Dealul Ferului, Brosteni, Romania). The locality "Dealul Ferului" is mentioned in old literature, e.g. "Handbuch der Mineralchemie, Band III/2, Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 1926".

"Brostenit" is an old name for a mixture - cores of rhodochrosite altering to birnessite and todorokite, only described from Brosteni, Suceava Co., Romania. A rare historic specimen.
