Description

Ore sample with crystals of arsenopyrite in a small pocket and some masses of löllingite.

Comes with antique label dated 19th century. The label means: "Leukopyrit (Arsenikalkies z. Th.), Reichenstein ". "Leukopyrit" is an old synonym meaning colorless pyrite, equates to arsenopyrite, "Arsenikalkies" means löllingite, Dana 6th, 96 (1892).
The Zloty Stok (Reichenstein) mining area is an old Au-bearing arsenopyrite deposit. Gold mining activities date back to the 13th century and peaked in the 16th century. More than 100 of mines, shafts and adits are known. In the 20th century the deposit was mined for arsenic, mining stopped in 1961.
