Description

Labeled "Iron froth coating hematite" (german "Eisenrahm"), a soft, earthy mass with bright, copper-like luster on botryoidal reddish hematite.

This is a 19th century german classic, comes with label of notorious Charles Ottley Groom-Napier (1839-1894) alias "Prince of Mantua and Montferrat" ("Mus. M&M") and on-glued sticker pointing on the mineral species. These "M&M"-labels are increasingly rare and hard to find. See his interesting biography on minrecs biographical archive.

As oftenly with the Groom-Napier specimens, no exact locality was given. - Iron froth was commonly found for example at localities in the Siegerland mining area, this is a good candidate for a more accurate locality.
