Description

A black crystal fragment of aeschynite-(Y). Slightly radioactive due to content of U and rare earth elements (appr. 5.4 micro Sv/h within spitting distance). Blomstrandin is a synonym for aeschynite-(Y); the content of Ce and Y was not analysed so far. The exact location "Frikstad" is registered hand-written on the backside of the label.

Acquired by Ennio Contarini (1890-1975), an italian collector, probably after his death gone to the Museo Civico di Storia Naturale di Milano, one of Italy's most important museums of natural history. Some parts of the museum's depot were sold to a well-known english mineral dealer recently.
Comes with original Wilhelm Maucher label, he was a prominent mineral dealer in Munich, Germany, born May 28, 1879.
