Description

This specimen is featuring a lustrous gold var electrum leaf of 2 x 1.5 mm size on matrix, accompanied by some grains of tarnished bornite. The color of the leaf is typical - more silvery than golden. Somehow difficult to photograph - it is best visible on pic 1, just above the dark/golden bornite grain.

Although no exact locality is given on the antique label, this is a very typical specimen from Zmeinogorsk Mine (Snake Mountain Mine; Schlangenberg Mine), Altai Mountains, Western-Siberian Region, Russia, dated 19th century.

"Güldisches Silber" is an old german denotation for electrum, a gold which usually contains more than 20% silver.
