Description

Ånnerødite is a mixture of columbite and samarskite-(Y). Here is a crystal fragment with some well-developed faces and metallic luster. A very good example of this quite rare mineral from the first recorded locality of this (meanwhile discredited) mineral species. Slightly radioactive due to content of U and rare earth elements.

An important historic specimen with a pedigree:
Sold by Émile Deyrolle (who was a 19th-century Paris dealer in natural history specimens). The fourth generation of the family, Émile Deyrolle's sons, altered the company name to "Les Fils d'Émile Deyrolle" on the labels (see picture). They had taken over the business by 1896. Then acquired by Ennio Cantorini (1890-1975), an italian collector, probably after his death gone to the Museo Civico di Storia Naturale di Milano, one of Italy's most important museums of natural history. Some parts of the museum's depot were sold to a well-known english mineral dealer recently.
