Description

Ampangabéite is a synonym for Samarskite-(Y), named after the type locality Ampangabé pegmatite (now discredited, was first described from this locality by Lacroix 1912).
Here is a black, not very well-developed crystal on feldspar matrix. Radioactive due to content of U and REE elements.

From old Dr. Krantz stock, comes with copy of old label - as oftenly, there was only one label supplied for two or more specimen in one box...Dated to the 50's or 60's.

A fine example of samarskite-Y from a historically important locality.
