Description Tabs

Gulsen, Kraubath an der Mur, Leoben District, Styria, Austria
Size Range:
Small cabinet (7-10 cm)
5 × 7 × 1 cm

A very colorful serpentine specimen in white, green and red colors from Kraubath, Styria, Austria.

Comes with interesting hand-written label, partly in old Sütterlin (german Kurrentschrift) script. The label means:
"Gymnit-Magnesit-Serpentin (Syiegel [= Spiegel]), Kraubath, Som̅ergraben, Steiermark" (Gymnite-Magnesite-Serpentine, (mirror), Kraubath, Sommergraben, Styria). Note the macron over the "m" which  meant that the letter was doubled.

"Gymnite" is an old designation for chrysotile + talc, Dana 6th, 676 (1892).
"Syiegel" is a very old german notation for "Spiegel" (mirror), used in literature of the beginning 19th century and earlier - this refers to the intensive glassy luster of the specimen.
