Description

Richellite is a rare Ca-Fe phosphate and occurs as a secondary mineral in phosphatic sedimentary rocks. It is probably a former gel with variable chemical composition.
This specimen is from the type locality in Belgium where it was described in 1883 and consists of brownish, amorphous material, with some arrangement in layers.

Comes with nice old Dr. F. Krantz pen and ink label dated 1890 - 1901, thus quite shortly after discovery. Background: In June 1901, due to passing of some resolutions in the context of a reform of german orthography, the spelling of german "Contor" (branch office) was altered to "Kontor".

An important historic specimen!
