Ex Isaac Walker, Ex Dr. Krantz, Bonn, Germany
With Antique Label

Description Tabs

Kamchatka Krai, Russian Federation
Size Range:
Small miniature (3-4.5 cm)
3.5 × 4 × 2 cm

Piece of black opaque obsidian with a coal-like look. 'Marechanite' is an old synonym for obsidian.

A rare specimen with antique Isaac Walker label, dated 1827! The number on the right is the lot number, and the date of the auction is in the center. The 'C' letter is a code for specimens with origin Alexander Crichton collection.
Many of the specimens can be matched up with the auction catalogues (most of which are in the British Museum of Natural History). The Walker code is in the BM(NH) amongst the manuscript notes of Sir Arthur Russell who deciphered it about 1920. He bought most of the good Walker specimens (which are now in the BM(NH)); a lot of the remainder went (indirectly) to Dr. Krantz.
