Description

A nice historic curiosity from an odd locality: Here's a set of 14 pieces of obsidian in rounded forms and colors varying from opaque black to gemmy - smoky transparent (comparable to smoky quartz).
Okhotsk is an urban locality and the administrative center of Okhotsky District of Khabarovsk Krai, Far Eastern Russia, located at the mouth of the Okhota River on the Sea of Okhotsk.

These are a very old specimen dated 1830-1850. The canceled company's location "Berlin" at the bottom of the label gives a hint that the specimen dates back before the movement from Berlin to Bonn in 1850. "Marekanit" is an old german synonym for obsidian.
