Description

Illite is a variety of muscovite (mica group), usually an alteration product. "Killinit" is an old german denotation for a pseudomorph of illite after spodumene, named after the locality of Killiney near Dublin, Ireland.
The specimens shows the typical structures and cleavage faces of in-grown spodumene crystals, alhough the spodumene is completely altered.

An important historic specimen, comes with a rare and very old printed label dated to 1830-1850, the Berlin time of Dr. Krantz. Sometimes after 1850 the town of Berlin was cancelled and replaced by Bonn, the later head office location until now. A corresponding number sticker is glued on the specimen.
