Grains of cordierite in granite matrix.

A goodie for all collectors of historic scandinavian specimens; comes with nice antique label of an unknown collection (origin: old Dr. Krantz stock) dated 19th century and corresponding number sticker (the sticker usually shows only the last 2 or 3 digits of the number indicated on the label).

"Abo" (swedish) stands for the town of Turku, Finland.

"Auralit" is said to be an altered cordierite, possibly an aluminosilicate of Fe, Mg, Ca and K. Originally reported from Aura river, Länsi-Suomen Lääni, Finland. It flows through Pöytyä, Aura and Lieto before discharging into the Archipelago Sea in the middle of the city of Turku.

The mentioned "Bonsdorfit" (which cannot be found on Mindat), is described in "Mineralogische Jahreshefte", 5th issue (1837) under the keyword "Dichroite" as a water-containing dichroite. Dana 6th, 421 (1892) says: Bonsdorffite = muscovite pseudomorph after cordierite (?)
