Description

An important historic specimen: Pyrargyllite was first described by Nordensköld in 1832 ("Jahres-Bericht über die Fortschritte der physischen Wissenschaften von Jacob Berzelius 31. März 1832"), "to be found in the granites around Helsingfors". Helsingfors is the swedish name for Helsinki, the capital of Finland.
Later, the mineral was discredited as "decomposed cordierite" (hand-written notice on the label "zersetzter Cordierit").
This is a very old specimen dated to mid 19th century from old Dr. Krantz stock. The canceled company's location "Berlin" at the bottom of the label gives a hint that the specimen dates back before the movement from Berlin to Bonn in 1850.
