Rubellan is a red-colored, oxidized variety of biotite. Here are tabular rubellane crystals, up to 2.5 cm, and black pyroxenes embedded in leucite-nephelinite-lava. A good and rare eifel mountains volcanism specimen. Comes with antique label dated 1899 and corresponding number sticker on-glued on the specimen.
The label in old Sütterlin script means: "Rubellan - Laacher See Eifel - Durch H2O Aufnahme umgewandelter Magnesiaglimmer, von Biotit nur durch die Farbe unterschieden." (Rubellan - Laach lake Eifel mountains - magnesia mica [german synonym for phlogophite] altered by incorporation of H2O, to be distinguished from biotite only by the color).
