Description

Consider the rarity of this specimen featuring both rare manganese minerals, in addition good representative examples of lithium rich mica and diaspore crystals.

The exact locality remains unconfirmed- Gloucester mine has been suggested as the only locality that has produced both minerals together yet after much investigation it remains a mystery. The three dimensional specimen is richly mineralized containing many pink ephesite bundles exhibiting typical hexagonal form, tapering towards either end exhibiting an attractive pearly luster. Many complete well exposed bundles can be found  glowing strikingly as light penetrates them, others are completely or partially coated by black manganese oxide. There are literally hundreds of ephesite crystals present.

Diospore crystals can be seen on every side of the three dimensional specimen present as translucent blades or dark amber colored encrustments.

This mineral is only known to exist in the Northern Cape.
