Description

An ex Heini Soltau specimen of significant size and outstanding quality without damage featuring a rare multi generation smithsonite and an association that includes pseudomorphs of fluorapatite after tarbuttite and hemimorphite coating. At 14cm this specimen is eye catching due to the consistent blue green color and sparkling hemimorphite crystals that are scattered around on the surface.

Multiple layers of smithsonite mineralization are evident from the trimmed edges and rare form bulging triangular smithsonite crystals are visible on the surface along the left hand side of the large stalactite extending vertically up the center of the specimen, these are distinctly different to the typical botryoidal mineralization that resembles flow stone covering the entire matrix. The stalactite is nicely terminated which is completely coated by pastel green fluorapatite crystals that were previously tarbuttite.

The smithsonite mineralization was repeated at least four times from what I can tell by the visual evidence the latest development being that the entire surface of the specimen is coated by a thin layer of lustrous smithsonite upon which the hemimorphite have attached themselves.
