New find! XRD & EDS conf. specimen no 11-09-sh2

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Shinkolobwe Mine, Shinkolobwe, Kambove, Haut-Katanga, DR Congo
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Thumbnail (1-3cm)
Size:
1.7 × 1.2 × 0.7 cm
Description

New find! XRD & EDS conf. specimen no 11-09-sh2 hosting orange spriggite and canary yellow guilleminite (EDS confirmed, initially labelled as lepersonnite-(Gd)) on a matrix of uranophane.

For the EDS result and the complicated U/Pb ratios of this mineral group an x-rayed vandendriesscheite crystal was used as a reference. The U/Pb ratio of the vandendriesscheite is 6.70 close to the ideal of 7.00.

The EDS result of the spriggite gives an EDS result of 1.97 (close to 2.00).

The XRD that contains some contamination of uranophane-alpha does not match well with wölsendorfite, therefore spriggite is the best match. This is a new find for the Shinkolobwe mine.
