Martyite

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Little Eva Mine, Yellow Cat Mesa, Grand County, Utah, United States of America
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Thumbnail (1-3cm)
Size:
1.8 × 1 × 0.7 cm
Description

Very rich and Raman confirmed martyite with a strongest band at around 850cm^(-1). It is the Zn analogon of the rare karpenkoite (Co), with a similar Raman spectrum, but its strongest band moved to ~835cm^(-1).  See also original description of karpenkoite (Kasatkin et al.).

While karpenkoite seems to appear in Vanadium impregnated sandstone close to cobaltomenite, martyite appears to be dominant everywhere else, but often associated with Vanadium impregnated samples hosting minerals like rossite & calciodelrioite or tyuyamunite.
