Description

These beautiful and interestingly shaped thumbnail pseudomorph specimens are called cherry blossom ("ceras") stones for their obvious resemblance to cherry blossom petals. The "petals" are in fact, trapiche cordierite crystals that have been pseudomorphed by muscovite/sercite.
Technically these flower-like crystals in hornfels matrix are "Trapiche cordierite and indialite intergrowths, mostly altered to mica", but the japanese name "sakura-ishi" (cherry blossom stones) is simpler!
