Description

An unusual calcite specimen from the West Whitesmith Mine near Strontian in Scotland. The toffee brown rhombic crystals reach 18mm on edge and have white, translucent cores. These core fluoresce strong orange in short and medium wave UV light whereas the brown areas flouresce pale yellow/green (suggestive of baryte...)

There is a scattering of small (1-2mm) harmotome prisms on one of the calcites - these being water clear

This piece was collected in April 1995 and is in excellent condition
