Description

Interesting specimen of quartz var. prasolite, polished on one side. Prasiolite is an extremely rare green variety of quartz. Its color comes from changes in the crystalographic structure, not from inclusions like most of green quartz.   

The color is idiochromatic in nature, resulting from the presence of Fe2+ ions substituting for Si in the crystal structure.

The outer prasiolite zone and white quartz internal zone.
