Quartz Calcite & Hisingerite

Classic Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
6 × 3.2 × 2.4 cm
Description

A very interesting Broken Hill specimen where clear quartz has formed over rosette type crystals of cream coloured calcite. The calcite in turn has been coated by a black manganese oxide but is not on the quartz.

Where the quartz rests on the calcite, is also free of this black coating giving the quartz a yellow colouration.

Black hissingerite (sturtite) is present on the remaining matrix below. The specimen is in pristine condition and quite unlike anything I have seen from here before.
