Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Penrice Quarry, Angaston, Barossa Valley, Mount Lofty Ranges, South Australia, Australia
Size Range:
Thumbnail (1-3cm)
Size:
1.7 × 1.2 × 1 cm
Description

White radiating acicular crystals of angastonite in matrix from the type locality. These are very small and you need a microscope to study them.

Angastonite, named after the town where it was discovered, became a valid species in 2008. It is the type and only locality to date. A limited amount of material was collected at the time, but as with most active quarries, the zone was mined out and the quarry owners are very reluctant to allow accesss to collectors. The chances of more angastonite being found are indeed slim.
